CranioSacral Therapy - Barabel McKay
Originating
with the work of osteopath Dr William Sutherland in the 1900s and
developed by Dr John Upledger since the 1970s into a full body treatment,
the name describes the therapy - cranium to sacrum - head to tail.
In CranioSacral Therapy hand sensitivity is used to feel and correct
restrictions and blockages. Sometimes patients become deeply relaxed
and positioning or movement seem to be guided by inner intelligence
to facilitate the letting go of deeply seated physical or emotional
trauma. This is called Somato-emotional release.
The CranioSacral
Therapist works with a very gentle traction or force. She relies
on the fact that the body knows exactly what it needs to do in order
to return to a healthy state. It is this light handed approach combined
with concentration and, most importantly, the intention of the therapist
that renders this treatment so successful in dealing with dysfunctions
of various kinds.
The therapeutic process can be supported by
visualisations or dialogue. Aspects of yourself hidden or forgotten under
the surface of everyday life can emerge.
